The Houston Museum of Natural Science, located in Hermann Park, is one of the most popular museums in the United States. The museum is known for its comprehensive and visually striking exhibits that appeal to both children and adults.
Exhibits include the Morian Hall of Paleontology, which showcases one of the largest collections of dinosaur fossils in the country, as well as halls dedicated to gems and minerals, ancient Egypt, Texas wildlife, African wildlife, and chemistry. The Burke Baker Planetarium offers astronomy shows with advanced digital projection, and the Wortham Giant Screen Theatre presents nature and science documentaries. The Cockrell Butterfly Center features a tropical rainforest environment with live butterflies and exotic plants.
The museum is open daily, with extended hours on weekends and during the summer. General admission covers permanent exhibits, while access to the planetarium, theater, butterfly center, and special exhibitions may require additional tickets. On Tuesdays from 5 PM to 8 PM, general admission is free for the permanent exhibits. Parking is available in the on-site garage and throughout the surrounding Museum District.
